Barrhorn

The mountain

The Barrhorns are a double peak in the Valais Alps on the western side of the Mattertal. The Äussere Barrhorn (Üssers Barrhorn, 3610 meters above sea level) is the higher of the two peaks, 750 meters south of it is the Innere Barrhorn (Inners Barrhorn, 3583 meters above sea level). The Barrhorns are located about three kilometers north of the Brunegghorn above St. Niklaus.

The western flank of the mountain is not glaciated and both summits are accessible without ice equipment. From the summits there is a good view of the Weisshorn, the Mischabel group with the Dom, Monte Rosa and the Bernese Alps with the Aletsch glacier.

The Äussere Barrhorn is considered the “highest mountain hiker in Europe”. (Source Wikipedia)
