Barrhorn

The mountain

The Barrhörner are a double summit in the Valais Alps on the western side of the Mattertal. The Outer Barrhorn (Üssers Barrhorn, 3610 metres above sea level) is the higher of the two peaks, with the Inner Barrhorn (Inners Barrhorn, 3583 metres above sea level) 750 metres to the south. The Barrhörner are located around three kilometres north of the Brunegghorn above St. Niklaus.

The western flank of the mountain is not glaciated and both peaks are accessible without ice equipment. From the summits you have a good view of the Weisshorn, the Mischabel group with the Dom, Monte Rosa and the Bernese Alps with the Aletsch Glacier.

The Äussere Barrhorn is considered the “highest mountain hike in Europe”. (Source Wikipedia)
